Healthy & Affordable Housing

The ECOASIS Project

ASEQ-EHAQ is working to create affordable, healthy housing for people living with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) — housing that focuses on indoor air quality and respects health and the environment. ECOASIS is more than housing; it is a community.

Why It Matters

Healthy housing is the foundation of healing

Healthy living spaces with excellent indoor air quality are not easy to find, but they are an essential need for people living with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS). In order to recover, it is important to have environmentally safe, affordable housing — preferably in a location away from pollution.

MCS leaves many people vulnerable, neglected, and isolated. Québec has long lacked the services, resources, and support this population urgently needs. ECOASIS aims to fill the gap in healthy, affordable housing and to provide a space where the MCS community can regain strength, health, and social connection.

The foundation for any healing process is a healthy living environment. ECOASIS is that foundation: affordable, healthy housing with clean air, clean water, organic food, and a strong, supportive community.

The ECOASIS Vision

More than housing — a community

ECOASIS will provide and operate affordable residential accommodation and incidental facilities for persons of all ages, of low and modest income, who are disabled by Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) and persons with similar overlapping conditions and special housing needs.

Clean air

The best possible indoor air quality, achieved through least-toxic products, off-gassing methods, and high-efficiency ventilation.

Clean water

Living spaces designed to support health, with clean water as part of a healthy foundation for daily life.

Organic food

A community that includes garden facilities and healthy, organic food as part of everyday living.

Supportive community

A strong community where people with MCS can reconnect, participate, and recover together.

A New Way to Live and Build

The first project of its kind

ECOASIS will exemplify a new way of building — one that benefits residents today and future generations by reducing pollutants in our environment. It will provide a solid foundation for good health through:

Least-toxic available products across all facilities and applications, to ensure an optimal level of air quality.

Off-gassing methods — including a process known as "baking" — to clear harmful VOCs from living spaces before occupancy.

The highest-efficiency ventilation systems available, with effective mechanical ventilation planned from the start.

Reduced electricity consumption and a lean toward solar energy.

The healthiest and most eco-friendly building materials available.

Strict management of the worksite to prevent significant chemical exposures during construction.
